Well, we finally left Wisconsin near the end of August. It took us much longer to actually leave than we anticipated because Our daughter broke her arm. The brakes on the bus caught on fire. We took our van in for a simple alignment and found a host of problems that resulted in getting the entire rear end replaced. Anne’s computer broke — again, but this time for good. It felt like everything was going wrong and yet...

Preparing to Leave Wisconsin

I only have a few minutes to write a blog post, so I’ll keep it short and sweet — and then I’ll add pictures, because I know that’s what you really want anyway. 😉 The past few weeks have been very, very busy, much busier that we ever dreamed they would be. I think we imagined that we would stay for a month or two at the Flanders’ farm, get our bus done, then be on our way to the next place. That just...

There is a Fly in My Coffee!

There is a Fly in My Coffee!

I love coffee. Many of you may already know this. I think of making coffee as an art form. I am endlessly in pursuit of the perfect cup of coffee. I drink it pretty much every day. Usually I have 2-3 cups of the delicious elixir but sometimes more depending on the circumstances. Could this have been the drink of choice for Adam and Eve? I know, some of you would probably disagree…but you’re all wrong! <wink> Any of you who have...

Ways to Make Tent Living Easier

Ways to Make Tent Living Easier

In many ways, the last couple weeks were really difficult, with bad weather, injuries, and a bunch of trips to town for things we needed. That can really slow down the bus construction! However, we learned a lot, and I’m sure that will help us down the road. I thought I would share some of our lessons, in case someone else who is planning to live in a tent full-time might be helped. Critters Camping means you’re living...

Diary – Second Week

Diary – Second Week

Wednesday, June 4, 2014 We had several goals for today. First, both Kraig and Anne needed to get some important work done online. We started to work in our tent, but around noon, the hotspot just quit working. We fiddled with it for awhile, but we still couldn’t get it to work. We decided to just eat some lunch and head into town to get it checked at Radio Shack. We asked the boys to start unloading the rest of our stuff from...

Diary – Our First Week

Wednesday, May 28, 2014 Today is “Moving Day,” when we load our stuff onto the bus and drive it out to the farm where we’re going to be staying while we renovate the bus. The farm is about 11 miles from our house, so it’s not far to go. The Flanders family kindly allowed us to set up our tents and park our bus next to their horse barn where there is running water and electricity. Mr. and Mrs. Hagan were amazing...

The Last Week in our House

The Last Week in our House

Posted By on May 20, 2014

We’ve had several people write to ask us what’s going on, so we wanted to give a quick update. We have exactly one more week left in this house, then our adventure begins. Yesterday we finalized the purchase of our new van, a 2002 Dodge 15-passenger van that’s in good condition inside, has a low-mileage dependable engine, and has nice tires. It does need some work on the rear axle, which a mechanic is now helping us...

Balancing Excitement and Fear

Balancing Excitement and Fear

Is it okay to admit when we’re a little confused and befuddled? It seems like we have hit a brick wall in every direction we’ve tried to go this week. How would we know if God was trying to close this door? Our landlord even talked to us this Friday and said he wished we would buy this house. We can’t possibly afford it, but we were given a number to call for those with low income, part of a rural development program...

Packing Up the Books

We’re still shopping for our vehicles, and we’ve been driving all over kingdom come the Metro Twin-Cities area, checking out various RVs and buses. In the meantime, we’ve also started cleaning out the house, listing items for sale online, and packing boxes of books to mail to friends. Whew! You can visit our book sale on Craigslist. We’re happy to ship books to those of you who live farther away. Next week is...

Where Will We Live?

Where Will We Live?

We heard about “tiny houses” several years ago, and since then we’ve been intrigued by the idea of simplifying our lives, living with fewer possessions, and being free to travel (or not) as YHWH directed. When Kraig resigned from the pastorate in early 2013, we prayed about moving into an RV or tiny house then, but YHWH shut the door firmly. He planted us instead in Spring Valley, Wisconsin, where we’ve enjoyed...
